A showcase kitchen built to be walked through by thousands, and still to work for the family who lives there afterwards.
Most finished basements give themselves away instantly: flat ceiling lighting, thin trim, and a colour scheme chosen to be inoffensive.
We treated this level as part of the house rather than an addition to it. Millwork matches the profiles upstairs, lighting is layered rather than downlit, and the palette runs warmer than the main floors to compensate for the lack of daylight.
